Chris's initial learning and advancement was achieved through the close friendship developed between himself and his tutor P/M John Matheson B.E.M. who not only provided the expertise but also the encouragement he needed to achieve the awards and medals he has gathered along the way.
From the age of nine Chris started to compose his own bagpipe music, and many of these compositions are on his first recording 'Notes in ma Heid'
